New year and start of a new project

So its been a while I know but i av been working back scaffolding, until I got laid off just b4 christmas, anyway its give me more focus to  start a new project using UDK i hope to be able to have a working level up and running very soon heres a few screen shots so far of the site level i started.

My main idea was to have a traditional old build on one side of the map and a new build on the other , with a sewer system linking the two, this is the site start

So my idea was to have a traditional build as well as anew site build , with a old type power station as the main build , and on the new build side of the level alterantive power like wind turbines

So here the level as it looks at the moment: not finished the main landscape yet and need to think about collison meshes to stop the player from falling off the map, god i hate collison lol

So today ive been at it again , just cant help myself as this is my best work so far, had a problem with UV the landscape all at once so im doing it in parts , the first where the water runs im quite pleased with so i decided i just had to have a shopping trolley in the water to celebrate :)

So ive started to flesh out the inside of the power station, starting with the ground floor, ive modeled a electric turbine, from photos i found on Google, and then i decided to use the Emissive texture in Udk to give the model a red glow, Im still having trouble with lighting in Udk, one of my down falls when I was in college, its a bit scratch my head time again me thinks, but im not letting it distract me in anyway, and am persevering , my goal for the rest of this week is to flesh out the remainder of the outer edges of the game level so the player is tricked into the landscape being bigger than what it actually is, its a little trick the guys that do Call of Duty do all the time to great effect, the outer models are not that great in detail but still look the part especially when i simple wall is actually used to stop the player falling off the map, but some sort of building is behind the wall.

Pictures of my latest models will follow shortly.

this is a low poly train, most of the detail is just hand made textures and then a simple mesh.

another version of the train just changed the carriage to cargo:

This is a model of a electrical turbine which ive placed into UDK inside of the Sub Station and gave it a Emissive texture so the red coils have a glow to them

So i decided i wasnt happy with my texture for the forklift or the diesel generator , so here they are now thve both been revamped and the models have been tidied up :

I think the new techniques ive used on both these models are working a lot better and i am pleased with the new look of them.

So i recently decided to have a look at using alpha channels to get some plants into my level, so at the moment ive modeled a nettle plant and a dandelion, and to be honest didn't really take that long to do

It is Now !

Well i hate being right sometimes but, I was this time , feel like chucking it all in and going back scaffolding but thats the easy way out, and if i go back down that road again, the last 3 years of struggle and hardship will be all for nothing, after all ive got a BA in Game Art hanging on the wall as i write this , so thats gotta count for something.

And now i can say ive worked on a AAA title so that going on my CV after my BA lol, but ive had my eyes opened a bit since I started 6 weeks ago for TT i know where I have to improve thanks to the advice from my mentor Paul Bannon whose been brilliant putting up with me for 6 weeks , i can safely say everything that was thrown at me I pretty much dealt with and if i dint know i asked , so thanks Paul if you ever get to read this , im off now see you later ppl.

They think it all over !

Well its been 6 weeks of working my backside off at TT Fusion , and to be honest Ive really enjoyed my brief stay at the " hallowed towers " but tomorrow is my last day and I had my art reviewed yesterday , I didnt really get a chance to model a lot as I was put on the Props , sorting them out and a lot of problem solving but I did what they asked of me and thats all I can do, so I dont really think ive done enough to impress , but you never know

here a few shots of the stuff i did manage to do in between Props solving , this Generator i did in a day from start to final textures , and im getting used to using Maya instead of 3ds Max

and then i went a bit construction mad and done a few more !

and a crane for good measure :)

Bob and Chris have had some work in game so the chances of me getting taken on is like Liverpool winning the treble this season lol ! , but good luck to them as there both sound lads as are all the guys and girls at TT :)
